MANILA, Philippines — CIBAC Party-List Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva was honored with the Freedom of Information (FOI) Award by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) during the 2024 FOI Awards held on November 25, 2024, at Hilton Hotel in Pasay City.

Rep. Villanueva was recognized for his unwavering advocacy for transparency and accountability through his authorship of the FOI bill in the 18th and 19th Congresses. The measure seeks to empower citizens with access to government information, fostering transparency and accountability.

“We, in CIBAC Party-List, believe that the real antidote to corruption is the power of an informed and engaged citizenry. Thus we keep on filing the FOI bill time and time again,” said Rep. Villanueva.

He emphasized the bill’s intent, stating, “The FOI bill seeks the full public disclosure of government transactions across all branches of the government – subject to clear and limited exceptions.”

Since 2001, CIBAC Party-List has been at the forefront of efforts to push for the FOI bill’s passage as a critical measure to uphold the people’s constitutional right to information on matters of public concern.

While acknowledging the challenges in advancing the legislation, Villanueva reaffirmed his commitment to the bill’s enactment.

“This award breathes unto us a renewed sense of determination and inspiration to see the FOI bill enacted into law. Maraming salamat po!” he said.

Former CIBAC Representative Domeng Rivera accepted the award on behalf of Rep. Villanueva.
