CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD) launched its Ligtas Christmas Campaign 2024 on Saturday with the theme “Pamilyang Patok Pag Kumpleto at Ligtas.”
The campaign is a collaborative effort involving local government units, health advocates, community organizations, families, and the public.
The DOH CLCHD emphasized that fostering a culture of safety and preparedness helps create a holiday season filled with joy, health, and shared memories.
This annual campaign focuses on raising awareness and promoting preventive measures to ensure that every Filipino enjoys a safe, healthy, and accident-free holiday season.
DOH CLCHD Regional Director Dr. Corazon Flores highlighted the campaign’s significance, stating, “This campaign is our commitment to a safer and healthier holiday season by practicing safe travel, mindful feasting, and avoiding firework-related injuries.”
The Ligtas Christmas Campaign focuses on three key advocacy pillars: BiyaHealthy, Healthy Handaan, and Iwas Paputok, according to Flores.
BiyaHealthy emphasizes road safety through the BLOW-BAG-SET checklist, which stands for Brakes, Lights, Oil, Water, Battery, Air, Gas, Engine, and Tires. Drivers are reminded to assess their physical readiness before driving and to adhere to safety guidelines.
Healthy Handaan, on the other hand, encourages holiday revelers to be mindful of their eating habits, particularly with sweet, salty, and fatty dishes that are common during the season. The CLCHD advises the public to eat in moderation, avoid excessive alcohol consumption during gatherings, and practice food safety by properly preparing and storing food to prevent foodborne illnesses.
Meanwhile, the Iwas Paputok campaign promotes safe practices in the use of firecrackers. These include supervising children around firecrackers and fireworks, educating them on the risks involved, and participating in community-organized fireworks displays. The campaign also recommends safe alternatives such as lights, whistles, clappers, or horns. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of knowing emergency hotlines and administering appropriate first aid in case of injuries or accidents.
