Apple has introduced a new entry-level laptop, the MacBook Neo, priced at $599 in the United States, marking the company’s most affordable MacBook to date. The device was announced as part of Apple’s latest wave of product updates aimed at expanding access to its ecosystem.
If converted directly, the $599 starting price is roughly equivalent to around ₱33,000–₱34,000. However, once released in the Philippine market, the laptop is expected to retail at approximately ₱34,000 to ₱37,000, factoring in import duties, taxes, and local retail pricing.
Powered by an iPhone Chip
One of the MacBook Neo’s most notable features is its processor. The laptop runs on the A-series chip used in iPhones, making it the first Mac designed around technology originally developed for smartphones. Apple says the chip is optimized for everyday computing tasks such as browsing, streaming, video calls, and document editing.
Designed for Everyday Users
The MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, a lightweight aluminum body, and up to 16 hours of battery life, according to Apple. The device also includes a 1080p FaceTime camera, dual speakers with Spatial Audio, and USB-C connectivity.
Bold Colors for a Lifestyle Market
Unlike traditional MacBook models that often come in neutral tones, the MacBook Neo is available in several vibrant colors, giving it a more lifestyle-focused appeal. The design is expected to attract younger consumers, including students and first-time laptop buyers.
Expanding Apple’s Entry-Level Market
With its lower price point, Apple appears to be targeting consumers who might otherwise consider Chromebooks or budget Windows laptops. The MacBook Neo could also serve as an accessible gateway for users entering the Apple ecosystem.
If released locally at the estimated ₱30K-plus price range, the MacBook Neo could become one of the most affordable Mac laptops available to Filipino consumers, particularly students and young professionals looking for a stylish and capable everyday device.
