Market collector shot dead in Bulacan

CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan -- A riding-in-tandem motorcycle suspects shot dead a female market collector in Bocaue, Bulacan on Wednesday afternoon. A report by Col. Relly Arnedo, Bulacan police director, sent to Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., Central Luzon regional police director, identified the victim as Alona Oliveros, market collector in Barangay Batia, and a resident of Bernardo Compound Barangay Caingin, Bocaue, Bulacan. Initial police investigation showed that before the shooting incident, the victim boarded a tricycle at the Batia TODA terminal in Barangay Batia, Bocaue, Bulacan. As the victim was along the road in Barangay Caingin around 2:15 pm, the riding-in-tandem suspects, who were both wearing black jackets and black helmets and onboard a black Suzuki Burghman motorcycle with no plate approached the victim and the backrider disembarked and shot Oliveros twice in the head using a short firearm. Modern National Food Hub worth P8.5 billion to rise in Clark airport complex

The Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) is investing PHP8.5 billion to construct the modern and state-of-the-art Clark National Food Hub, envisioned to become the Philippines' premium wholesale market and distribution source of high-value and top-quality food products. The CIAC announced that its President and CEO, Arrey Perez, joined the Philippine delegation to Amsterdam, Netherlands, for a market sensing and observation mission. He discussed with officials from the Netherlands’ Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality the most efficient technology for managing the food hub. It noted that the Philippine delegation learned from Dutch officials the need for timely delivery of the right product under the right conditions to consumers, necessitating modern, technology-assisted, and cost-efficient logistics management, quality control, and transaction facilitation. Perez relayed that Dutch Director-General for Foreign Economic Relations Michiel Sweers had said that "The Philippine delegation is in the right place as the Netherlands' robust agricultural sector and innovative agrologistics capabilities is a center of excellence in trade facilitation and technological innovation in the world." PDEA seizes P3.1M worth of imported kush in controlled delivery ops in Antipolo

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -- A consignee of an imported kush that arrived at the Port of Clark in Pampanga on May 9 this year was arrested in Antipolo, Rizal during a controlled delivery operation late Monday afternoon (May 13). The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Central Luzon Office reported that the imported kush, a high-grade type of marijuana,  was sent from the United States of America. It weighs  approximately 1,900 grams, is worth P3,135,000, and was consigned to Zintaro Uy, a resident of Sitio Pantayanin, Dela Paz, Antipolo City. Upon arrival at the Port of Clark, concerned PDEA units, Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark and the local police of Antipolo conducted a controlled delivery operation in Sitio Pantayanin, Pinagsamahan Street, Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo, Rizal. "The illegal drugs were contained in four plastic pouches and were declared as hooded sweat shirts. The suspect was aware about the content of the parcels and did not resist arrest when collared by the operating teams", a PDEA official noted. P3.4 M worth of shabu confiscated in Bulacan, 2 arrested
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Approximately P3,400,000 worth of suspected shabu was confiscated from two drug suspects in Bulacan early morning of Sunday ( May 12). Reports reaching Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., regional police director of Central Luzon, identified the suspects as alias “Lex” and alias “Dam”, both listed as high value individuals, who were arrested around 12:50 am in a drug sting in Barangay Graceville, City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Police operatives were able to confiscate from the duo approximately 500 grams of suspected shabu with standard drug price of P3,400,000. Bulacan officials conduct briefer on “Let the people know the truth” river project
CITY OF MALOLOS -- Bulacan officials, led by Gov. Daniel Fernando, have  challenged the complainant, who claimed to be Francisco Balagtas, to come out in the open on the alleged anomalous river dredging project in the province. During a press briefing on the Bulacan River restoration dubbed " Let the people know the truth," on Friday afternoon (May 10) the governor said the complainant's allegations "coming out in messengers, social media and some broadsheets are false, twisted half-truths and certainly a misinformation and political demolition campaign." A news report said "A corruption scandal erupted in Bulacan province after a graft suit was filed against Bulacan Gov.  Daniel  Fernando, Vice Gov. Alex Castro, other officials, and a private contractor before the Ombudsman over the P500 million Bulacan Flood Control and River Restoration Project. The whistleblower was identified in the report  as Francisco Balagtas who filed a complaint at the Office of the Ombudsman on May 6, 2024 that was dated May 1, 2024. The governor challenged the complainant to come out in the open and exposed his true identity and those who ordered him to file the complaint. Fernando said the complainant claimed that there was no public procurement process. However, the governor explained that the project is not covered under Republic Act 9184 and cited that under "DENR DAO No. 2020-07, Section 5 which states: No funding from the government shall  be made for the conduct of dredging activities by the private sector. Holders of dredging clearance shall provide the financing, technology, management and personnel necessary to implement dredging activities within the exclusive river dredging zone." To settle the issue once and for all, Fernando said that in 2020 they adhere to the DENR Administrative Order No. 2020-07 and signed Executive Order No. 07 Series of 2021 that led to the creation of an inter-agency committee that aims to "palalimin ang priority dredging zones sa ating lalawigan." He said this is a program of the national government and after almost three years of comprehensive planning, "handa na tayong isakatuparan ang pinakamalaking hakbang upang wakasan ang deka-dekadang pagbaha sa ating lalawigan." NFA Bulacan has 59% of its  palay procurement target this dry cropping season
CITY OF MALOLOS -- The National Food Authority (NFA) in Bulacan has already procured 59 percent of its palay procurement target this dry cropping season. Rhona Talens, NFA officer in charge and branch manager in Bulacan, said in a text message that the grain agency is targeting to procure 103,000 bags of palay in the province for this rice cropping season. The NFA Bulacan has procurement fund of P154.5 million on its target palay stocks and has been buying fresh palay on a price range of P17.00-P23.00 per kilo with moisture content ranging from 22 percent to 29.9 percent while clean and dry grains are being procured at P30.00 per kilo with a moisture content of 13 percent to 14 percent. Talens also explained that the new NFA's Price Range Scheme (PRICERS) is adjusted on a weekly basis that could be at par or above the prevailing ex-farm price of palay. She pointed out that currently, their agency has already procured 61,247 bags of palay that is 59 percent of its target. Talens said that based on their monitoring, Bulacan farmers have planted a total of 32,642 hectares of rice crops this summer and 43 percent, or 14,036 hectares of these have already been harvested. Central Luzon Police seizes P5.7M worth of illegal drugs in a week-long ops
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- The Central Luzon Police Force has confiscated more than P5.7 million worth of illegal drugs in a week-long separate drug stings in the region from April 29 to May 5 this year. Reports reaching Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., regional police director of Central Luzon, said a total of 108 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted during the period leading to the confiscations of 838.53 grams of shabu and 220.44 grams of dried marijuana leaves that have a combined standard drug price of P5,728,446.80. The separate drug stings also resulted in the arrests of 180 individuals. SMC extracts 3 million metric tons of silt, solid waste in several Bulacan river systems
CITY OF MALOLOS -- San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has announced that it has already extracted three million metric tons of silt and solid waste from over 50 kilometers (km) of river system in Bulacan. The river clean-up projects of SMC has also extracted another three million tons of silts and solid wastes from various river systems in and around Metro Manila for a total of six million metric tons. The 50 kilometers river  clean-up projects of SMC in Bulacan include those that slice through the cities and towns of Meycauayan, Obando, Bulakan, Bocaue, Marilao, Balagtas and Guiguinto. The company enumerated that the Bulacan rivers that were already cleared of silt and waste include the Taliptip-Maycapiz-Bambang rivers, with a length of 10 km; Meycauayan River from Manila Bay up to NLEX, 12 kms.; Mailad to Bocaue/Sta. Maria River, 8.5 kms.; Guiguinto River up to NLEX, 9.6 kms.; Marilao River, also upstream to NLEX, 4.8 kms; and, Balagtas River, 2.5 kms. Angat Dam has no cracks due to summer heat — Bulacan PDRRMO
CITY OF MALOLOS -- Angat Dam has not suffered any cracks due to extreme heat. This was the reaction of Manuel Lukban Jr., head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office (PDRRMO) of Bulacan, to the recent news report that said parts of the dam suffered cracks (bitak) due to the extreme heat of the sun. The report mentioned that cracks were detected in certain areas of the Angat watershed, particularly in Sitio Maputi, Barangay San Lorenzo, in Norzagaray town. This information has made some people uneasy, prompting inquiries into its veracity, noted Lukban. The panicky reactions of the people, particularly those living downstream of the Angat Dam, inquiring about the veracity of the report can be attributed to the "Big One" scenario study. This study suggests that if the dam collapses due to a strong earthquake, it could inundate a large portion of Bulacan, destroying tens of thousands of residential houses and resulting in tens of thousands of drowning victims. Lukban explained that the cracks were monitored on the river system of the Angat watershed far from the Angat Dam. The cracks were brought about the dwindling water elevation of the Angat watershed and have not affected the Angat Dam structure, the PDRRMO officer said. On the other hand, Julius Paraiso, an official of the Sagip Sierra Madre Environmentalists Society Inc., an environmentalists group familiar with the Angat watershed said in a text message, "malayo po ang [Sitio] Maputi sa Angat Dam, and normal lang na magkabitak-bitak ang lupa kapag natutuyo na ang malaking bahagi ng kailugan. Police foils theft of 700 meters of PLDT copper cable wire in Nueva Ecija
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Police and village watchmen has foiled the theft of 700 meters by 10 individuals of copper cable wire worth P600,00 in Nueva Ecija early yesterday (May 2). Reports reaching Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., regional police director of Central Luzon, said the cable wire belongs to the Philippine Long Distance Telephone company In Barangay Quezon District, Cabanatuan City. The initial investigation revealed that witnesses reported to the local police that a gang of thieves was in the act of cutting the copper cable wires underneath a manhole in the said barangay. Local police, together with Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, were able to intercept and arrested nine of them identified only as Mond, Gelo,Ger, Son, Juls, Nante, Jax, Rap,  Lon and EJ while a certain Elmer managed to elude arrest.
