Filipino pop-rock band Ang Bandang Shirley has officially announced their disbandment today, February 19, through their social media platforms. This comes after resurfaced allegations of sexual misconduct against one of its members, Ean Aguila.
In their statement, the band disapproved Aguila’s actions and urged him to take full responsibility. “Let it be known that we strongly do not condone his behavior, and we urged him to take full responsibility for his actions,” they wrote.
The band also confirmed that Aguila had chosen to leave the group. “He made a statement and eventually decided to quit the band. We support this decision, and we sincerely hope for the healing of all parties involved.”
Despite Aguila’s departure, the remaining members—vocalists Debb Acebu and Kathy Gener, bassist Paolo Arciga, and drummer Miggy Abesamis—have decided to disband rather than continue without him.
It can be remembered that in January, grooming and sexual misconduct allegations against the band’s lead vocalist-guitarist Ean Aguila from 2017 resurfaced on X. Aguila allegedly had a romantic relationship with a 17-year-old fan when he was 30.
Ang Bandang Shirley has been known for hit songs like “Nakauwi Na,” “Umaapaw,” and “Tama Na Ang Drama” since their founding in 2003.
