Billions of agricultural products lost due to Tropical Storm Kristine

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has estimated that the total damage to agriculture from severe tropical storm Kristine has reached P1.69 billion.
The DA reported that rice accounted for the highest agricultural losses, alongside other high-value crops, livestock, and poultry. Approximately 42,340 farmers and 37,590 hectares of agricultural land were affected by the storm.

According to the DA, the most impacted areas include the Bicol Region, Western and Eastern Visayas, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon, which covers Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) stated that 158 areas have been declared under a state of calamity. The Bicol Region reported the highest number of affected areas, with 78 cities and municipalities, including the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes.
Infrastructure damage is estimated at around P825 million.
Approximately 5.8 million people, or 1.4 million families, were displaced due to the storm.
