CIBAC representative advocates for teaching the ten commandments in schools during National Bible Day celebration

MANILA — In observance of National Bible Day, CIBAC Party-List Rep. Bro. Eddie Villanueva introduced House Bill 11339, which seeks to incorporate the Ten Commandments into the Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) and Values Education (VE) subjects in the country’s basic education curriculum.

The proposed law also mandates the prominent display of the Ten Commandments in every classroom as a constant reminder of values such as faith, honoring parents, respecting life, and living with integrity.

“The Ten Commandments is more than a religious doctrine; it is also a historical fact and document which is generally recognized as a fundamental influence in shaping the development of secular laws and legal codes in the world today. This measure aims to recognize and avail of the Ten Commandments as a potent tool in implementing the Constitutional mandate of promoting and protecting the spiritual and moral well-being of the Filipino youth,” explained Rep. Villanueva.

“Belief and faith in God is one of the dominant Filipino values as no less than the Preamble of the Philippine Constitution affirms such. This measure is not about imposing religion but about equipping our future generation with needed moral and ethical principles. Teaching our students the Ten Commandments helps us fulfill the Constitutional mandate of strengthening the ethical and moral values of our youth,” added Rep. Villanueva.

The CIBAC representative also stated that this initiative is a proactive measure against foreign woke ideologies that encourage the youth to stray from and abandon our treasured God-and-family-centered values and beliefs.

In addition to the bill, Rep. Villanueva has also introduced House Resolution 2195, which urges the Department of Education to begin teaching and displaying the Ten Commandments in schools while awaiting the passage of the bill.

“The Word of God is our source of hope for this country. By inculcating the Ten Commandments in our youth’s lives, we have hope for a bright future because we would nip at the bud the various moral, social, and political problems that might neset us” concluded Rep. Bro. Eddie.

According to Republic Act 11163, or the National Bible Day law, the last Monday of January each year is designated as National Bible Day.
