Former Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves has been “released from preventive detention” in Becora Prison, Dili, Timor-Leste, according to his legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio on Monday.
“Rep. Arnoldo Teves released from preventive detention,” Topacio said in a message to the media.
When Topacio was asked for additional details, he said their camp has no further comments at this time.
The Department of Justice is currently verifying with the Timor-Leste government regarding the reported release of Teves.
Teves was arrested in March after months of evading capture in Timor-Leste. He is accused of multiple counts of murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder in connection with the March 4, 2023 attack in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, which resulted in the death of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo and nine others.
