Hontiveros urges DFA to revoke Alice Guo’s Philippine passport
Mike Manalaysay August 20, 2024 at 04:54 PMMANILA, Philippines — Senator Risa Hontiveros, on Tuesday, urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to revoke Alice Guo’s Philippine passport following the disclosure that the former Mayor of Bamban has already departed the country.
Her passport should be made null and void immediately,” Hontiveros said.
Hontiveros explained that revoking Guo’s passport would restrict her travel and make it easier to track her movements if she isn’t constantly on the move. She also emphasized that Guo does not have the right to use a Philippine passport in the first place.
In a privilege speech yesterday, Hontiveros revealed information from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) indicating that Guo entered Malaysia on July 18 and subsequently traveled to Singapore on July 21.
The Bureau of Immigration has since verified this, adding that information from its international counterparts confirmed Guo’s travel to Indonesia after her stay in Singapore.
The failure to apprehend Alice Guo only shows the lack of better interagency coordination,” the senator said.
According to Hontiveros, Alice Guo cannot be allowed to evade detection due to the lack of proper coordination among government agencies. She also stressed that this should not be ignored if there are government officials complicit in all of this.
In a subsequent statement, the senator remarked that Alice Guo’s camp should not behave as if they have VIP access at the immigration office.
She further explained that the Senate was simply performing its legal responsibility by issuing the arrest order, and it is the duty of agencies such as the Bureau of Immigration to assist the Senate in executing its constitutional mandate.
