Netizens laud Ombudsman for dismissing Alice Guo from service
Paulo Gaborni August 14, 2024 at 07:38 PMMANILA, Philippines — Netizens praised the Ombudsman for dismissing suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo from the service.
“Finally, the Ombudsman has ‘balls’.” These are the words of Michael Q in his Facebook comment regarding the decision.
Through a 25-page decision issued on Tuesday, August 13, the Ombudsman declared Guo guilty of grave misconduct, ordered her dismissal from service, revoked all her retirement benefits, and permanently barred her from any future government employment.
“The series of acts are interconnected, leaving no other conclusion than that they were committed by Guo with ulterior motive or self-interest,” the decision stated.
Furthermore, the decision also found 12 other Bamban officials guilty of conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service. These officials are Vice Mayor Leonardo Anunciacion, business permit and licensing officer Edwin Ocampo, Adenn Sigua, Johnny Sales, Jayson Galang, Nikko Ballio, Ernesto Salting, Jose Salting Jr., Robin Mangiliman, Jose Aguilar, Mary Lacsamana, and Rainier Rivera. They were ordered suspended for three months.
With this decision, netizens praised the office of the Ombudsman for its duty to protect national interest through promoting integrity in the bureaucracy.
“Dapat lang. Kailangan makulong din sa pamemeke ng documents. We should send a strong message to the Chinese that we are not fooled and that we will not take this lightly. Pati mga pinoy na tumulong sa kanila dapat makulong din,” said JJ Tim**.
“She lied atound openly before the Filipino people thinking she could get around with PH laws. This is a case where justice is swift. Puede naman pala eh,” said Manuel C.
“Too late but better than nothing! Kudos to Sen. Risa Hontiveros and Win Gatchalian!” said Cecilio T, also praising the two senators for pursuing justice against Guo and others involved.
“Only now. Sooo late, but I guess better late than never. How this sham reached this far is another story and crisis altogether 😩🙏,” said Denise RDL.
On the other hand, some netizens criticized the Ombudsman for focusing on sensational cases involving erring appointed bureaucrats and elected officials.
“Kapag ganitong sensational cases ang bilis kumilos ng Ombudsman, pero kapag feeling nila wala naman silang magi-gain na clout for being on the ‘right side of history,’ ang kupad kupad nila mag-decide ng cases LMAO 🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱,” said Jan T.
“Bilis naman,” Jalilo DT commented on Facebook. “While the other cases are languishing in the Ombudsman’s dockets, this one got on the express counter.”
Mich C expressed a demand for swift justice beyond dismissing Guo from government service.
“Jail next! Pakibilis! Ang babagal kumilos. Pero yung nagnakaw lang ng mangga sa kapitbahay ang bilis makulong. Samantalang ito, ang daming fake documents na ginawa, ang daming hearing!” She said.
