Senate and House take custody of Alice Guo’s sister and friend

MANILA — Shiela Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, and her friend, Cassandra Ong, arrived in the country from Indonesia on Thursday after being arrested by authorities.

The plane carrying them touched down at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at 5:00 p.m.

The Philippine National Police reported that authorities arrested both Guo and Ong in Indonesia on Wednesday at 6:45 AM.

However, a statement from Senator Raffy Tulfo said that Indonesian immigration authorities arrested them in Riau, Indonesia last August 20.

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero had announced earlier that the Senate’s Sergeant-at-Arms would arrest Shiela as soon as she returned to the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives will take Ong into custody.

Indonesian Authorities Commended for Their Firm Action – Hontiveros

Senator Risa Hontiveros commended the Indonesian authorities for their swift response, resulting in the arrest of Cassandra Li Ong and Shiela Guo.

“We commend the Indonesian authorities for their decisive action in upholding the law and maintaining security. This is a promising development, and a testament to our collective efforts,” Hontiveros said.

“This goes to show how human trafficking facilitated by POGOs is a regional problem that needs a regional, even global, solution,” the senator added.

Furthermore, the senator criticized the immigration system for enabling Guo’s escape.

“Inaasahan ko ang pagdalo ni Cassandra Li Ong at Shiela Guo sa ating hearing sa Martes,” the senator said. “Managot sila sa pag-iwas nila sa Senado.”
