MANILA — Tons of trash litter the contentious Dolomite Beach in Manila as Typhoon Carina departs the country.
In a Facebook post by Manny IC, garbage can be seen strewn all over the beach.

“Dolomite Beach, which is high-cost maintenance, was anticipated from the very beginning,” said Manny IC, referring to the beach being costly to maintain its cleanliness and enrichment with artificial sand.

As the typhoon left the country, DOLE-TUPAD program beneficiaries, the MMDA, and the DENR’s Estero Rangers recently launched a beach cleanup effort.
It is anticipated that two truckloads of trash, washed out from Cavite and the Pasig River during Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon, will be gathered.

The controversial Dolomite Beach was a project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources during the Duterte regime. It is part of the “Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program,” which aims to improve the bay known for its sunset scene in the City of Manila.
However, scientists and environmental groups criticized the project and its initiators due to its hazards, destroying both the natural ecosystem of Manila Bay and the source of the synthetic sand.
