QUEZON CITY — In a decisive move, CIBAC Party-List Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva has introduced House Resolution 1824, aimed at thoroughly investigating the underlying causes and devising critical solutions to the escalating flooding crisis in the country, particularly in response to the devastating aftermath of Typhoon Carina.
Rep. Villanueva stressed the importance of thoroughly examining the government’s current flood control program to determine why it fails to effectively address the chronic flooding issue, despite the daily expenditure of an average of Php 1 billion on flood mitigation. He pointed out that the flooding situation continues to deteriorate each year.
“The national budget is replete with line item flood control projects spread to several agencies but we do not know if it is following a holistic masterplan,” he stated.
The lawmaker emphasized the need to review the government’s efforts to ensure their effectiveness.
“That is why there is an urgent need to evaluate and revise the approach and projects of the government’s flood control program to ensure that we address the real cause of the problem and implement the right solution,” said Rep. Bro. Eddie.
Rep. Villanueva renewed his appeal to his colleagues in the House of Representatives to hold a separate and focused hearing on the budgets allocated for flood control programs to prevent the misallocation of public funds.
