MANILA — CIBAC Party-List Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva has expressed his full support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s recent order to implement lifestyle checks on executive officials in government. The directive follows mounting concerns over questionable flood control projects and is seen as a vital move toward reinforcing integrity and accountability in public service.
“Genuine lifestyle checks is a potent deterrent against corruption and a constant reminder to all that public office is a public trust. It’s a long overdue anti-corruption mechanism that should have been in place,” Villanueva said.
While welcoming the President’s initiative, Villanueva emphasized that such checks must go beyond surface-level efforts. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the process is thorough, honest, and consistently applied.
“The force and effectiveness of such directive by the President rests on the degree of its resolve to really check the lifestyle of government officials and go after those who acquire this wealth through corrupt and illegal means. We pray for the President to have the necessary quantum of political will to discipline and stamp out greed from the ranks of government managers,” says the CIBAC solon.
Villanueva also urged other sectors of government—including the legislative and judicial branches, constitutional commissions, local government units, and all government agencies—to adopt the same measure.
“All officials in all branches of the government should be subjected into lifestyle check so that we can have a system of preventing public money from getting into private pockets. This is a crucial step in upholding transparency and accountability and in preserving public confidence on the government,” ends Rep. Bro. Eddie.
