MANILA, Philippines– CIBAC Party-List Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva has expressed support for the proposal by Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Garcia to publish candidates’ Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) online for the 2025 elections, making them accessible to the public.
Rep. Villanueva is hopeful that this initiative will enhance transparency and accountability in the country’s election system.
“People will have greater scrutiny of who is financing the candidates, where the campaign money is coming from, and whether it is legitimate or not,” he explained.
He added, “By doing so, the public can better determine what or whose interests the candidate will be standing for when elected into office.”
COMELEC Chairman Garcia’s proposal aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the election process. The plan includes publishing candidates’ SOCEs online, making it easier for the public to access them while complying with RA 10173, or the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
The Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) party-list has been at the forefront of the battle against graft and corruption in government for decades. The party-list first secured a seat in the House of Representatives in 2001. Rep. Bro. Eddie Villanueva is a staunch advocate for transparency, accountability, and good governance.
