MANILA, Philippines — lawmakers are urging Vice President Sara Duterte to undergo a psychological evaluation, expressing concern over her state of mind following several controversial statements she made against President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
The lawmakers criticized the vice president’s behavior during a recent press conference, describing it as conduct unbecoming of an elected official.
During the press conference, VP Duterte made statements such as exhuming the remains of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. and throwing them into the West Philippine Sea (WPS). She also mentioned considering cutting off the President’s head.
These remarks alarmed several lawmakers, leading them to suggest that VP Duterte undergo psychological evaluation, as they found her actions deeply disturbing.

House Assistant Majority Leader and Zambales 1st District Rep. Jay Khonghun expressed grave concern over the vice president’s statements, saying they reflect a troubling level of instability.
Similarly, La Union 1st District Rep. Paolo Ortega, who also serves as House Assistant Majority Leader, called on VP Duterte to seek professional help, citing her alarming behavior during the press conference.
Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla also weighed in, stating that VP Duterte’s remarks about exhuming and throwing Marcos Sr.’s remains into the WPS could be a violation of the Revised Penal Code, as it constitutes desecration of the dead. In a radio interview, Remulla added that while her statements are disturbing, they do not necessarily indicate that she is of unsound mind.
During the press conference held on October 18, VP Duterte criticized President Marcos Jr., calling him incompetent and claiming that he lacked concrete platforms during his presidential campaign.
However, she did not address the ongoing investigation in the Lower House regarding the alleged misuse of funds in the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education during her tenure.
