Court of Appeals freezes Quiboloy’s bank accounts

MANILA, Philippines – The Court of Appeals has imposed a freeze order on Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s assets, including 10 bank accounts, 7 real properties, 5 vehicles, and an aircraft.

The order, dated August 6, 2024, extends to 47 bank accounts, 16 properties, and 16 vehicles tied to the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC).

The Anti-Money Laundering Council sought the freeze order, targeting the assets of Quiboloy, the KOJC, and other individuals. The Court of Appeals cited ongoing cases against Quiboloy for trafficking, child and sexual abuse, and soliciting donations in the U.S. in granting AMLC’s request.

The court noted that funds solicited in the U.S. were smuggled into the Philippines by KOJC members, and the monthly incomes of top church administrators did not align with their financial profiles, which showed unusual deposits, withdrawals, and remittances.

The CA, in a decision signed by Associate Justice Gabriel Robeniol, stated, “In order to avoid the possibility of the funds in the subject bank accounts and/or properties from being withdrawn, removed, transferred, concealed, or placed beyond the reach of law enforcers, this court finds it appropriate and judicious to issue a 20-day freeze order as prayed for by petitioner over said bank accounts, including all other related or materially-linked accounts, and the real and personal properties enumerated in the ex-parte petition.”

The freeze order included the accounts of Maria Teresita Dandan, Sylvia Calija Cemañes, Paulene Chavez Canada, Ingrid Chavez Canada, Marlon Bongas Acoo, Helen Pagaduan Panilag, Jackielyn Wong Roy, Cresente Chavez Canada, Alona Mertalla Santander, the Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc., and Swara Sug Media Corporation.
