Filipina tennis star Alex Eala saw her 2026 campaign at the Miami Open come to an end after a dominant straight-set defeat to Karolína Muchová, 6-0, 6-2, in the Round of 16.
Eala struggled to find her rhythm early in the match, failing to score in the opening set as Muchová took full control and dictated the pace.
The Czech standout continued her strong form in the second set, closing out the match in just around an hour to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
The loss marked a tough exit for the 20-year-old Filipina, who was coming off a historic run in last year’s tournament where she reached the semifinals and stunned several top-ranked players.
Despite the early exit, Eala’s participation in another deep run at a WTA 1000 event highlights her continued growth as she remains one of the Philippines’ brightest hopes in international tennis.
