Filipina tennis standout Alexandra Eala continued her impressive run at the Dubai Tennis Championships after defeating Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, 7-5, 6-4, to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.
Fresh off her stunning victory over World No. 8 in the previous round, Eala once again showcased poise and maturity beyond her years.
The 18-year-old engaged in a tight opening set, going toe-to-toe with the World No. 32. Cirstea threatened to seize control after taking a 5-4 lead, but Eala held firm and won three straight games to close out the first set, 7-5.
Carrying that momentum into the second set, Eala stormed to a commanding 4-0 lead behind consistent baseline play and sharp shot selection. Cirstea attempted a late rally and trimmed the deficit to 5-4, but Eala kept her composure and held at love in the 10th game to seal the straight-sets victory.
“I think the key to today was staying calm and trusting my shots. I think I was very solid in particular moments where I needed to be. So that reflected in my performance and in the score,” Eala said after the match.
With the win, Eala advances to the quarterfinals where she is set to face American star Coco Gauff. The rising Filipina phenom now looks to sustain her momentum as she eyes a deeper run in the prestigious WTA 1000 event.
