The suspected shooter in the road rage incident at the EDSA-Ayala tunnel in Makati on Tuesday afternoon was apprehended in Pasig early yesterday morning following a massive police manhunt.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos disclosed the arrest of businessman Gerrard Raymund Yu during a press conference at Camp Crame yesterday afternoon. Composite teams from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) made the arrest at around 7:00 AM at his residence in Riverside Village.

Abalos stated that Yu’s apprehension followed a thorough investigation in which detectives looked for the black Mercedes Benz he was operating at the time of the alleged shooting of Aniceto Mateo, 65, who was driving a Toyota Innova multipurpose vehicle in the southbound lane of EDSA in Barangay Urdaneta at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Prior to the manhunt, Abalos said that the black Mercedes Benz was registered to a Japanese national living in Barangay Almanza Uno in Las Piñas, who could no longer be found in the area.
According to PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, police detectives were unable to track down the original owner of the car at the provided address.

Using closed-circuit television footage, police tracked down the vehicle in Pasig, the PNP Chief said.
“A black Mercedes Benz with the plate number DAD 98670 was also found at the residence; the plate number BCS 77 was also found inside the Mercedes Benz,” Abalos said.
“Two caliber pistols were also seized from the suspect; the seized firearms were brought to the PNP Forensic Group for ballistic examination, while the suspect was subjected to a paraffin test,” he added.
The suspect tested positive for gunpowder from the seized weapon, a Taurus pistol, according to the results, which Abalos claimed matched the ballistic examination-confirmed recovered fired cartridge found at the scene.
PNP also found that no firearms were registered in the suspect’s name after consulting with the Firearms and Explosives Office.
“The PNP leadership is now preparing to file a case of murder against the suspect and is committed to bringing justice to the victim and his loved ones,” Abalos said.
Yu did not make a comment during the briefing; instead, he covered his head with a jacket and wore a face mask.
Mateo was shot and killed at approximately 2:30 p.m., according to police reports, near the southbound lane of the EDSA-Ayala tunnel by the person suspected of driving the black Mercedes-Benz with license plate BCS77.
The victim’s right shoulder was shot, causing a rippling wound through his neck, resulting in his death.
At the time of the shooting, Mateo was accompanied by a 47-year-old housemaid and a seven-year-old Filipino-Japanese boy. They were traveling back to Barangay Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa from Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
