CLARK, Pampanga — Luis “Chavit” Singson, the former governor of Ilocos Sur, has declared his intention to run for the Senate in the 2025 midterm elections.

On Wednesday, Singson announced his candidacy in a speech during a meeting with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, which was posted on his Facebook page.

Singson revealed that former President Rodrigo Duterte had approved his candidacy.

“Sabi ko it’s an honor to be endorsed by President Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte. Laking pasalamat ko dahil hindi siya nakalimot,” Singson said.

“At inisip ko ‘yun, magpaalam muna ako sa mga pamilya ko […] Dahil sa binigay niyong ito, this is my first time to confirm na tatakbo na akong senador with your support,” Singson added.

“Ako na ang utusan ninyo sa Senado kung papalarin,” the former governor stressed in his speech.

This will be Singson’s second attempt to run for the Senate. His first attempt was in 2007 under the Lakas-CMD led “Team Unity,” where he received 4,353,644 votes.
