Mon Lazaro June 27, 2024 at 03:42 PMCITY OF MALOLOS — The Philippine Pyrotechnics Manufacturers and Dealers Association Inc. (PPMDAI), in collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), is working to conduct the country’s first pyrotechnic course.
Celso Cruz, PPMDAI chairman emeritus, told ARKIPELAGO NEWS BULACAN that their group has collaborated with TESDA to develop a pyrotechnic course to train pyrotechnicians from various manufacturers, aiming to prevent the accidental explosions that have plagued the industry year after year.
He cited that last year alone, several fireworks explosions were recorded in Cebu, Laguna, Pangasinan, and Bulacan.
The pyrotechnic course is one of the solutions that could minimize or eradicate accidental explosions that have claimed lives, caused injuries, and destroyed properties.
The course will assess the competencies of pyrotechnicians from the stakeholders, Cruz pointed out.
Initially, the pyrotechnic course is expected to be conducted in Bulacan, where Bocaue, considered the fireworks capital, is located.
The first batch of students will come from the fireworks stakeholders in Bulacan, and the course is expected to be implemented within the current year, Cruz added.
