Former President Duterte fumes at Gabriela Partylist Rep. Brosas’ question

MANILA, Philippines – A heated exchange erupted between Gabriela Partylist Representative Arlene Brosas and former President Rodrigo Duterte during a House Quad Committee hearing on the war on drugs.

Brosas questioned Duterte, saying, “Responsible kayo kasi polisiya niyo ‘yun. Kumbaga tatak Duterte dahil polisiya niyo rin ‘yan sa Davao. Tama ba na tawagin po itong Davao model or Davao style? Mr. Chair, yes or no?”

Duterte responded in a raised voice, saying, “You are not an investigator. Why are you asking me to answer yes or no? Ano ka, pulis?”

Brosas reiterated, “Mr. Chair, tayo po ay nasa imbestigasyon, kasalukuyan. Mr. Chair, tinatanong ko lang naman.”

As a result of the exchange, the hearing was temporarily suspended. When it resumed, Brosas insisted that her question was answerable by a simple yes or no, without requiring an explanation.

Duterte replied, “Do not control my answer. This is not an inquisition. This is a democratic process of investigation.”
