MANILA — Authorities have seized 15 high-end vehicles believed to be owned by fugitive former congressman Zaldy Co, following a court-backed raid on a luxury condominium in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.
The operation was carried out by the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Southern Police District (SPD), after the issuance of a court-approved search warrant, officials said.
Law enforcement teams entered the upscale condo and found the luxury cars parked side by side in designated rental parking slots inside the building. Out of 17 vehicles initially searched, authorities confirmed that 15 were recovered at the scene.
According to investigators, nine of the vehicles were flagged for customs violations, including questionable importation records, unpaid taxes, and documentation issues. Some of the cars are allegedly linked to businesses associated with Co, officials said.
Independent Commission for Infrastructure Special Adviser Rodolfo Azurin Jr. noted that authorities are still working to determine who owns the condominium unit and the parking spaces where the vehicles were stored—a key detail that could widen the investigation.
Co, a former representative of the Ako Bicol party-list, remains at large and is believed to be hiding abroad, according to authorities.
The car seizure comes amid new plunder charges filed against the former congressman, once again tied to allegedly anomalous flood control projects that prosecutors say involved massive misuse of public funds. He has been given until January 15 to submit a counter-affidavit.
