MANILA — The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) has vehemently condemned what they describe as politically driven attacks against several of its members as the 2025 elections approach.
This declaration followed the filing of multiple cases targeting two of its convenors, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto and Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro, as well as Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“Ipinapahayag ng Mayors for Good Governance ang buong suporta at tiwala sa ating mga convenor na sina Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro at Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, at gayundin kay Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas. (The Mayors for Good Governance express full support and confidence in our convenors, Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, as well as Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas),” M4GG said in a statement to the media.
The group stated that the complaints lodged against the three mayors with the Ombudsman present an opportunity for the truth to emerge and for their names to be vindicated.
They also reaffirmed their members’ credibility, emphasizing their established record of excellence as public servants.
“Bilang isang samahan na isinusulong ang mabuting pamamahala at paglaban sa katiwalian, palagi namin pinapahalagahan ang transparency at accountability. Ang tatlong alkalde ay nagpamalas at patuloy [na] isinasabuhay ang mga prinsipyong ito. (As a movement that advocates for good governance and the fight against corruption, we always prioritize transparency and accountability. These three mayors have demonstrated and continue to embody these principles),” the group emphasized.
M4GG pledged to remain steadfast, combat injustice, and advocate for what is best for the Filipino people.
Sotto is facing graft allegations related to his purported failure to disburse cash allowances to employees of Pasig City Hall and is also accused of providing unlawful discounts to a telecommunications company.
Mayor Teodoro has been accused of technical malversation allegedly involving the misappropriation of PhilHealth funds. Meanwhile, Mayor Treñas faces charges of grave misconduct before the Office of the Ombudsman concerning the demolition of Iloilo City’s historic public market.
