MANILA — Senator Bam Aquino acknowledged on Monday, February 11, the growing calls for former Vice President and incumbent Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo to consider running again for a national post in the 2028 elections.
“Of course, many people want her to run, but you also have to ask her what her plans are,” Aquino said in an ambush interview when asked whether Robredo is being eyed as a potential opposition candidate for the 2028 national polls.
Aquino made the statement following a recent gathering of key opposition figures, which included Robredo, Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros, Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima, Akbayan Party-list Representative Chel Diokno, former senator Franklin Drilon, and former Budget Secretary Butch Abad.
While discussions during the meeting were not detailed, the presence of prominent opposition leaders has fueled speculation about early preparations and possible alignments ahead of the 2028 elections.
Aquino, however, emphasized that any decision to run would ultimately depend on Robredo herself.
