MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has confirmed that Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro’s name will remain on the ballot for the upcoming May elections despite a previous disqualification ruling. Teodoro is running for congressman in Marikina’s First District.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia clarified that Teodoro’s name could not be removed from the ballot as the Comelec en banc has not yet ruled on his motion for reconsideration.
Garcia stressed that a candidate’s name can only be removed from the ballot through a decision by the Comelec en banc accompanied by a certificate of finality.
Comelec started printing the ballots for the May elections on Monday.
The Comelec 1st Division earlier disqualified Teodoro as a candidate, but Garcia acknowledged the possibility of the en banc reversing the decision if new arguments or evidence are presented in the motion for reconsideration.
“Marami rin namang pagkakataon na pagkatapos makapagprisinta ng mga argumento sa motion for reconsideration ay puwedeng magkaroon ng reversal ang division,” Garcia said.
