MARIKINA CITY — The Marikina City government has once again secured the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for 2024, marking its second consecutive win under the leadership of Mayor Marcy Teodoro.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) named Marikina among 14 local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to receive this prestigious accolade.
The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG), an organization of over 150 local chief executives advocating for transparency and innovation, lauded Mayor Teodoro and other awardees for their commitment to exemplary governance.
“Congratulations sa 102 nating kasamang alkalde sa Mayors for Good Governance matapos parangalan ang kanilang mga LGU ng Seal of Good Local Governance 2024,” said M4GG.

Marikina 1st District Representative Maan Teodoro highlighted the significance of the recognition.
Among Marikina’s initiatives under Mayor Teodoro’s leadership is the dredging of the Marikina River, which has significantly mitigated severe flooding during typhoons and heavy rains.
Rep. Teodoro has allocated funds for the project, which expanded the river’s width from 50 meters to nearly 100 meters, enhancing its water-carrying capacity and preventing overflows. The local government also procured an amphibious long-arm backhoe to further improve project efficiency.
Residents have expressed gratitude for the initiative’s impact.
Judy Queno, a long-time resident of Barangay Tumana, echoed similar sentiments. “Hindi na umakyat. Wala na, wala nang tubig. Napaka-epektibo talaga. Ngayon lang namin ito naranasan,” she said.
The SGLG is granted to LGUs that excel across ten key governance areas: financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace, and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture, and arts; and youth development.
Institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11292, the program seeks to encourage continuous improvement and outstanding performance among LGUs nationwide.
