Philippine Eagle “Mangayon” has tragically died from severe blood loss due to injuries.
Veterinarians believe the eagle was shot using an improvised slingshot or marble gun while it was resting on a branch.
According to the Philippine Eagle Foundation, Mangayon was rescued from Compostela, Davao de Oro, on July 8. The Philippine Army stationed in Barangay Mangayon discovered the eagle, which was found weakened and with an injury to its left wing. The troops transported the injured eagle to the nearest detachment and notified the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The Philippine Eagle Foundation then mobilized a rescue team to retrieve the eagle.

The young male eagle underwent a series of physical examinations and received medical treatment.
“The medical assessment revealed severe damage, with shattered bones observed in the left tarsal joints,” according to PEF.
The eagle later died from its injuries.

The foundation expressed sadness over the loss of a critically endangered species and urged authorities to enforce laws against eagle persecution.
