Reclamation projects sa Manila Bay ipapasuri sa mga scientist at eksperto

Nagbubuo ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ng kalipunan ng mga siyentista at iba pang eksperto upang gumawa ng komprehensibong ‘impact assessment’ hinggil sa epekto ng mga reclamation projects sa Manila Bay.
Ayon kay DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga sa press briefing sa Malacañang, “Hindi lang po siya environmental science broadly because it is involving a bay system which leads to the ocean… we need physical oceanographer, chemical oceanographer, fisheries expert, marine biologist… Hindi po madali ang composition ng cumulative impact assessment team.”
Dagdag niya, “Reclamation has a certain value, obviously in terms of the economy… however, we need to do the cost benefit analysis in terms of the impact to the ecology and the longer-term impact in terms of possibly what could result from climate change.” (May tulong sa ekonomiya ang reclamation… pero kailangan nating suriin ang epekto nito sa ekolohiya at sa posibleng mangyari bunsod ng climate change).
Isa rito aniya ay ang pinangangambahang “Big One” o napakalakas na lindol na inaasahang tatama at makakalikha ng malubhang pinsala sa Metro Manila.
