MANILA, Philippines — Senator Risa Hontiveros has strongly opposed the reported attempt by certain Bureau of Immigration (BI) officials to secure the release of Tony Yang on bail. Yang, a Chinese national accused of engaging in illicit activities, is currently detained and facing serious allegations, including a warrant of arrest issued in China. He is the brother of Michael Yang, a former adviser to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Napakarami nang ebidensyang nagpapatunay ng pag-abuso niya ng mga patakaran sa Pilipinas, tapos palalayain lang siya?” said Hontiveros.
She also highlighted a prior case involving Guo Hua Ping aka Alice Guo, a fugitive who reportedly managed to escape. “We have seen how easy it was for Guo Hua Ping to slip out. Maniniwala ba tayo na susunod sa batas yang si Tony Yang?”
The senator emphasized Yang’s history of exploiting the country. “He has made his fortune in the country by pretending to be Filipino. He, along with his brother Michael Yang, has exploited the Filipino people for his own gain,” she said.
Hontiveros firmly stated that Yang should remain in detention, regardless of his alleged health concerns.
“Kung kailangan niya umano ng medical attention, pwede naman siyang ipagamot, but he should remain under government custody,” she insisted.
The senator also raised alarms over Yang’s pending warrant of arrest in China, questioning the implications of releasing him. “Bukod pa dito, he has a warrant of arrest from China. Hahayaan lang ba siyang makawala na lang?” she asked.
Hontiveros called on the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to expedite its investigation into Yang’s alleged money laundering activities. “Hindi pwedeng hindi siya managot,” she stressed, warning against any actions that may lead to impunity. “Ano ito, trial balloon? Tapos si Guo Hua Ping naman? Wag niyong linlangin ang bayan.”
