Solon calls for agricultural self-sustainability
October 21, 2022 at 01:50 PMSenior Deputy Minority Leader and Northern Samar 1st District Rep. Paul Daza on Wednesday urged the cooperation of fellow representatives in crafting agricultural self-sustainability legislation instead of relying on stopgaps for food security issues.
This after the Department of Agriculture-Sugar Regulatory Administration (DA-SRA) recently implemented the sale of affordable sugar at P70/kilo to consumers at certain places.
Daza pointed out that while the DA-SRA is “commendable” for their course of action, he reminded the public that the measure “a mere stopgap on a larger issue: our agricultural sector’s self-sustainability.”
Long-term solutions, according to Daza, would ensure that Filipinos are less vulnerable “against global crises or the movement of the dollar.”
“As representatives of the people, we are called to be the architects and stewards of our own agricultural capabilities. Let’s work together to secure a sweeter future for Filipino farmers and families,” Daza added.
