ZAMBOANGA CITY – Atty. Vidzfar Julie, the provincial election supervisor for Sulu, survived a shooting attack early this morning in Villa Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City. His sibling, who was driving the car at the time, was wounded and remains in critical condition.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed the incident, sharing a screenshot of a Facebook post from Julie’s relatives. In the post, Comelec Chairman George Garcia condemned the violence, stating, “No words are enough to condemn this treacherous act of violence against our people. What is more gruesome and unforgivable is when a loved one is caught in the crossfire. We are not yet prepared to cry hopelessness, but a call for immediate action from authorities is strongly demanded.”

The shooting follows a troubling history of violent incidents targeting Julie. On December 14, 2007, while serving as the ARMM director for Comelec, an improvised bomb exploded in front of his house in Indanan, Sulu, just five days after another bomb blast near his office in Patikul. Julie was in Manila at the time of those attacks.
Authorities are investigating the current incident and are calling for swift action to bring those responsible to justice.
