Trillanes calls for rally to push for VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment

MANILA — Former senator and opposition figure Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV has called on Filipinos to join a multi-sectoral rally advocating for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. The demonstration is set for January 31, 2025, at 9:00 AM, at the historic People Power Monument in Quezon City.

In a Facebook post, Trillanes urged citizens to take a stand against what he described as the Vice President’s corruption, incompetence, and unfitness for office.

“We are inviting everyone to join the multi-sectoral rally para sa IMPEACHMENT NI SARA on Jan.31, 9am, at the People Power Monument. Panimula pa lang ito. Let our voices be heard!!!” he wrote.

The former Senator also encouraged those unable to attend to help spread awareness of the event.

“Kung di man kayo maka-join, then kindly help us spread the posts and photos about the event para hindi malihis ang issue ng corruption, incompetence at pagiging unfit ni Sara to be VP,” he added.

The Vice President, who has severed ties with the Marcos administration, is facing three impeachment complaints. These include allegations of misuse of public funds, issuing threats against government officials, and obstructing congressional investigations.

Duterte, however, has dismissed the impeachment complaints as a politically motivated smear campaign aimed at derailing her potential bid for the presidency in the 2028 elections.
