MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators are set to receive a ₱10 per liter fuel subsidy as part of the government’s efforts to ease the impact of rising oil prices on the transport sector.
The subsidy, implemented alongside programs of the Department of Transportation and other government agencies, aims to reduce daily operating costs and help ensure continued public transport services.
The fuel discount will directly benefit drivers by lowering their expenses on diesel and gasoline, allowing them to maintain stable earnings despite fluctuating fuel prices.
The initiative complements other government measures such as service contracting programs, which provide guaranteed income to PUV operators while ensuring reliable transport for commuters.
Authorities emphasized that the subsidy is part of a broader response to support the transport sector and protect commuters from potential fare increases amid ongoing economic challenges.
