MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has uncovered new details in its investigation into Apollo Quiboloy, controversial leader of the religious group Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), including claims that he sought to emulate the biblical King Solomon by accumulating numerous wives.

According to a video from Senator Risa Hontiveros, the allegations were revealed during a Senate hearing where a police official testified that Quiboloy had allegedly victimized at least 200 women.

Col. Hansel Marantan, director of the Davao City Police Office, told the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality that former high-ranking KOJC members shared information suggesting that Quiboloy had justified his actions by invoking the example of King Solomon, who had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

“Quiboloy believed that what he was doing was lawful,” Marantan explained. “He manipulated and exploited these women after grooming them through strict religious indoctrination.”

According to the PNP, at least 68 women, ranging in age, have been identified as victims of Quiboloy’s sexual exploitation. Marantan further testified that Quiboloy used fear tactics, including the belief in “Angels of Death,” to control and intimidate his followers, ensuring that the abuse continued over several years and generations.

The PNP is also investigating Quiboloy for other alleged criminal activities, including land grabbing in Barangay Tamayong, Davao City, where he is accused of unlawfully acquiring land. Authorities are also looking into possible money laundering, tax evasion, and the legality of various schools and businesses operated by KOJC, as well as other foundations linked to the religious group.

Quiboloy, who is known for his lavish lifestyle and close ties to powerful political figures, including Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, has long been a controversial figure. His religious empire, which claims millions of followers, has faced multiple allegations of abuse, financial misconduct, and manipulation.

The ongoing investigation could have significant legal and political ramifications, especially given Quiboloy’s high-profile status in the Philippines and abroad. The Senate panel’s inquiry continues as authorities work to piece together the full scope of the allegations.

As of now, no formal charges have been filed against Quiboloy in connection with the sexual exploitation claims, but the investigation remains active.
