CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan – The body of a 51-year-old man was recovered in a flooded barangay in Calumpit town on Tuesday afternoon, while two other drowning victims in the City of Baliwag remain missing as of Wednesday morning (September 18).
Reports reaching Col. Satur Ediong, acting Bulacan police director, identified the Calumpit drowning victim as Ricardo Marin. The two missing victims in the City of Baliwag were identified as Dave Mangahas and Roxan Limus.
Initial investigations revealed that Marin boarded his boat around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday to gather grass for his goats. He was reported missing when he failed to return home on time.
Search and retrieval operations were carried out by the Calumpit rescue team and barangay officials of Barangay Gugo. Around 3:30 p.m., the victim’s lifeless body was discovered in the flooded area of Purok 3, Barangay Gugo.
Meanwhile, Mangahas and Limus were swept away by the river current in Barangay Makinabang, City of Baliwag, around noon on Tuesday. Mangahas reportedly slipped into the waterway, and Limus attempted to rescue him but was also caught in the current.
As of Wednesday morning (September 18), Julian Salvador, information officer of Baliwag, confirmed in a text message to Arkipelago News Bulacan that Mangahas and Limus had yet to be retrieved by the Baliwag City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
