1 pertussis death, 3 other cases reported in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS — Four cases of pertussis have been confirmed in Bulacan with one of the patients succumbing to the disease as of April 1 this year.
Pat Alvaro-Castro, information officer of Bulacan’s Provincial Health Office – Public Health, has confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) morning during a radio interview over Radyo Bandera Central Luzon 90.3 FM, that the four cases of pertussis (whooping cough) in Bulacan was laboratory confirmed by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
The fatality was a two-month old child from Bocaue town while three toddlers aged one to three months are still recuperating in an undisclosed hospitals, Alvaro-Castro added.
It can be recalled that on March 22 this year, the provincial government of Bulacan has confirmed two cases of pertussis were monitored in the Cities of San Jose del Monte and Meycauayan.
The Provincial Health Office – Public Health was directed to actively search for cases and identify children with incomplete vaccinations or those who have missed vaccinations; with efforts including active case finding, specimen collection, and continuous vaccinations.
Vaccination efforts against pertussis are being prioritized, especially in areas with confirmed cases, with support from the Department of Health and city/municipal health offices.
