Kotse napilitang gamitin bilang COVID-19 ward

Mababa na ang oxygen level ng isang pasyente ng COVID-19 nang dumating sa emergency room ng isang pribadong ospital sa Cavite. Katulad ng ibang pagamutan umaapaw na rin ang ER ng naturang ospital.

“Gising naman po ang patient. Hindi naman po siya hingal na hingal pero 70 na lang po ang oxygen saturation (niya) when dapat 95% pataas po ito.”

Ito ang ipinaliwanag ni Dr. Jamie Ysabel Amposta sa Arkipelago News. Siya ang doktor sa emergency room na nag-asikaso sa 66 years old na pasyente.

Pero ang problema punong-puno na raw ang kanilang ospital sa nakalipas na tatlong lingo. Pito hanggang walong pasyente lang daw ang kaya nilang tanggapin. Kaya napipilitan daw silang gamutin ang mga pasyente sa wheelchair at parking lot.

“Puno na po ang apat na tent ng puro covid positive na moderate to severe. Five patients na po (ang nakaconfine) kasi may isang tent na dalawa ang laman dahil magkamag-anak.”

Pero dahil sa kagustuhan ng doktor na mabigyan ng mabilis na atensyong medikal at mapanatiling ligtas ang kanyang pasyente, napilitan siyang ipagamit ang kotse ng pasyente bilang ward.

Ito ang ibinahagi ni Dr. Amposta sa isang Facebook post noong April 4 na naging viral. Makikita sa litrato ang isang pulang kotse na may katabing oxygen tank at stand na may nakasabit na intravenous (IV) fluid. Nakabukas ng bahagya ang mga bintana ng sasakyan para may madaanan ang mga tubo ng oxygen tank at IV bag. Nasa loob ng kotse ang 66 years old na pasyente- may nakakabit sa kanyang dextrose at oxygen mask.

Sa panayam ng Arkipelago News kay Dr. Amposta, sinabi niyang hindi niya gustong gamutin ang pasyente sa loob ng kanyang kotse. Pero wala na raw siyang magagawa. Kailangan niyang mamili sa pagitan ng kaligtasan ng pasyente o regulasyon ng ospital.

“I never thought something like this can happen in my lifetime. I know this is not ideal at all but this is the best we can do for our ailing patients. Don’t shout at us if we say we can’t accomodate you anymore because wala na talaga,” paliwanag ni Dr. Amposta sa kanyang post.

Kinausap daw niya ng personal at sa isang video call ang anak ng pasyente para ipaliwanag ang sitwasyon at kung ano ang magagawa nila. Pumayag naman daw ang pamilya ng pasyente.

” I can offer to do laboratory and management pero hanggang d’yan na lang po kayo kasi po puno na talaga. Wala na tayong makinaryang HFNC (high flow nasal cannula) kasi ginagamit na rin. Ang maibibigay ko na lang ay normal oxygen. Lahat naman po ay aware sila as family. Pumayag po sila. Although, again, hindi po ito ideal pero kaysa po sa wala, kaya rin po napapayag sila.”

Dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng mga kaso ng coronavirus, nagkakaubusan na rin ng mga kuwarto at kama sa mga intensive care unit (ICU) at emergency room ng mga ospital. Para sa isang doktor katulad ni Dr. Amposta, nakakalungkot ang sitwasyon ngayon dahil marami ang namamatay na hindi man lang nakakapasok sa ER.

“Frustrating. Emotionally and mentally tormenting to send patients away because wala ng facility. Hindi ko yun ginusto pero wala na rin akong means to help, ubos na.”

Pagod na pagod na rin daw maging ang mga medical frontliner katulad niya, “Akong doktor pwede akong tumingin ng 1-100 na pasyente pero yung nurse na magcarry-out ng orders ko ang kulang. Team po kami at hindi pwedeng wala sila. Hindi pwedeng i-exhaust ko sila kasi vital sila sa paggana ng ER ko,” dagdag pa ni Dr. Amposta.

Nakalipat na raw sa tent ang pasyente sa kanyang ikalawang araw. Wala pa rin daw bakanteng kuwarto para sa kanya sa loob ng ospital. Umaasa pa rin daw ang pasyente sa oxygen support at nangangailangan sana ng mas mataas na oxygenation pero nahihirapan na raw ang kanyang pamilya sa gastos.

Ayon sa Department of Health, nakapagtala ngayong araw, April 6, ng 9,373 na karagdagang kaso ng coronavirus. Umabot na sa 152,562 ang kabuuang bilang ng mga kaso sa buong bansa at 13,817 ang namatay.
