Mon Lazaro November 30, 2023 at 08:02 PMCITY OF MALOLOS — The provincial government of Bulacan has come out with an advisory that Angat Dam has released water at 11:00 am on Thursday.
The National Power Corporation reported that the water elevation of the dam was at 212.30 meters above sea level (masl) at 3:00 pm on Wednesday. To maintain this safe level due to continuous inflow/rains over the past 48 hours, the corporation will open its spillway gate, with an opening of 0.5 meters, at 11 AM on Thursday (November 30).
All local government units where the Angat River traverses have been notified and NPC shall continue to make public warnings near the river tomorrow at 6:00 AM.
The public is advised to stay away from the Angat River during the spilling operations.
The water release from Angat Dam flows down to Ipo Dam and runs down towards Bustos Dam and excess water is discharged on its downstream river system before flowing out to the Manila Bay.
As these developed, Josephine Salazar, director of the National Irrigation Administrator in Central Luzon, said that by 11:00 am Thursday, Ipo Dam was releasing 66 cubic meter per second (CMS).
These water release can be safely accommodated by Bustos Dam since its water elevation is only 14.75 meter that is below it’s critical level of 15 meter and still 2.6 meter below its spilling level, a personnel from the said dam noted.
