Barangay kagawad candidate in Bulacan arrested for vote buying
Mon Lazaro October 30, 2023 at 09:56 AMCAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A 52-year-old businessman who is a barangay kagawad candidate was arrested for alleged vote-buying activity in Bulacan on Saturday (October 28) afternoon.
Reports reaching Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., regional police director forCentral Luzon, said the suspect was apprehended in Barangay Bagong Barrio, Pandi, Bulacan and seized from his possession were cash amounting to P35,840 in different denominations, DSWD General Intake Sheets, and Sample Ballots.
The suspect was placed under the custody of Pandi Police Station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
Hidalgo emphasized the commitment of the police to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming elections. He reminded the public that vote-buying is an election offense, punishable by one to six years of imprisonment.
This arrest underscores the dedication of law enforcement agencies to maintain the fairness and legality of the electoral process, ensuring that the public can exercise their voting rights without interference or manipulation.
