BFAR conducts training on smoked tilapia for Bulacan indigenous peoples
Mon Lazaro February 22, 2024 at 05:22 PMCITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 3 (BFAR 3) recently conducted a post-harvest training on smoking tilapia for members of the Dumagat communities in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
The collaborative efforts of BFAR 3 together with the provincial government of Bulacan and the National Power Corporation Angat Watershed Area Team seek to empower the local communities and promote sustainable practices for the indigenous peoples (IPs) of Bulacan
The post-harvest training aims to equip the Dumagat communities with skills on tilapia smoking to add more value to the fish commodity.
The method of value addition raises the market value of the fish and at the same time creating employment possibilities.
Participating IPs received hands-on training covering various aspects of the smoking process, including preparation, smoking methods, and storage.
The activity seeks to contribute to the economic empowerment and promotes sustainable practices and livelihoods to the Bulacan IP communities.
