MANILA — CIBAC Party-List Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva marked National Bible Day with a privilege speech in the House of Representatives, stressing that the Bible must remain the nation’s moral and spiritual compass. He called on leaders and citizens alike to embrace Biblical teachings on truth and transparency, warning that greed and dishonesty undermine national renewal.
At the core of his message, Villanueva underscored the importance of truth and accountability as pillars of freedom.
“Mr. Speaker, kung patuloy po nating itatago ang katotohanan, nilalagay po natin ang buong bansa sa patuloy na sumpa, kung saan walang kaayusan, walang kalayaan at walang kasaganaan,” said Bro. Eddie, pointing to the country’s struggles with rampant corruption and chronic poverty.
He cautioned that suppressing the truth places the nation under a continuing curse of disorder and unrest, which could eventually spark social upheaval.

“This is not a political speech. I do not mean any political color or whatsoever. This is just plain Word of God from the Bible. Ito po ang simpleng mensahe ng Diyos ngayong National Bible Day,” Villanueva clarified.
The CIBAC solon concluded by urging Filipinos to heed Biblical teachings, citing Deuteronomy 28:1–2, which promises blessings to those who obey God but curses for those who disobey.
National Bible Day is observed annually under Republic Act 11163, recognizing the crucial role of the Bible in shaping the faith, values, and moral life of the Filipino people.
