CITY OF MALOLOS – Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando issued a memorandum on Tuesday regarding the release of water from Angat Dam.
The memorandum stated that the dam has reached its maximum spilling level, raising the likelihood of water discharge.
The released water may cause the swelling of the Angat River, particularly during high tide at Manila Bay, which could affect the municipalities of Angat, Bustos, Calumpit, Hagonoy, Norzagaray, Paombong, Plaridel, Pulilan, San Rafael, and the City of Baliwag.
Meanwhile, Maria Teresa Serra, manager of the flood forecasting and warning system division of the National Power Corporation (NPC), confirmed that the floodgate of Angat Dam has been raised by half a meter, releasing approximately 70 cubic meters per second of water into the downstream river system until its water elevation falls below the 214-meter level.

The water discharged from Angat Dam flows toward Bustos Dam, which is managed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
Placida Cordero, NIA Bulacan manager, confirmed that Bustos Dam has been conducting preemptive water releases of 78 cubic meters per second over the past three days in anticipation of Angat Dam’s water spillage.
With the spillage from Angat Dam, NIA reported that Bustos Dam has been required to release 165 cubic meters per second, including the local flow.
The agency added that this measure is necessary to prevent excessive stress on the rubber dam and avoid potential failure.
