cITY OF MALOLOS — Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando, who seemed to have suffered a mild stroke, was abruptly rushed to medical treatment as he started to deliver a speech in an event on the night of September 11 at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.

A video spreading on social media showed that the governor was about to deliver his message at the event but can only utter an unaudible sounds and made a hand gesture to Vice Gov. Alex Castro who immediately came to his aid and together left the event immediately to an unknown place.

A news statement released past 2:00 pm today, September 13, by the external affairs division of the Provincial Public Affairs Office of Bulacan said the governor suffered from exhaustion and dehydration.

It said the incident took place, “during an LGBT event last September 11, 2023 at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, Fernando suddenly halted and cancelled his speech, apparently feeling unwell. He was immediately brought to the hospital and was attended to by his cardiologist, Dr. Berwyn Flores, who confirmed that the reason for the governor’s ‘irregular gestures at the event was exhaustion, over fatigue and dehydration’.”

The statement added that, “Dr. Berwyn Flores said the governor is able to carry out his public duties “without disruption” and is expected to come back in full swing after a few days of adequate rest.”

However, it is not clear which hospital the governor was brought to for medical attention or whether he is still recuperating there.
