Bulakeños encouraged to observe Earth Hour 2024

CITY OF MALOLOS — The provincial government of Bulacan and the Diocese of Malolos have encouraged Bulakeños to participate in the observance of Earth Hour 2024 last night (March 23).
Emelita Lingat, the environment department’s chief of the provincial environment and natural resources office of Bulacan, explained that Earth Hour event is from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 23.
The event, Lingat said “is a reminder that small actions can have significant impact on the environment..we can take an hour away from our screens and switch off the electricity..or we can play board games by candlelight or gaze at the heavenly bodies in our gardens or outside space.”
As these developed, Julius Victor Degala, Bulacan environment and natural resources officer, said that the provincial administrator has issued a memo to all department heads and employees to participate in the observance of Earth Hour 2024 that has the theme of “Switch off plastic pollution, give an hour for Earth.”
On the other hand, the Diocese of Malolos had released a statement explaining that the “Earth Hour global celebration started as a symbolic event in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and has grown into one of the world’s largest grassroots environmental movements spanning over 7,000 cities and 193 countries and territories.”
It added “the Philippines joined in 2008, making Earth Hour 2024 the sixteenth time the celebration is observed.”
Among the commercial establishment that will participate in the observation of Earth Hour were all the SM malls in the province.
Veronica Cunan, public relations officer of SM malls in Bulacan, said most of the lights of all their malls will be switched off at 8:30 pm and that some essential lights will remain turned on for the safety of shoppers.
