CITY OF MALOLOS — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) conducted an awareness campaign in Bulacan on Thursday, September 19, called “LaKarAn or Lakbay Karapatan Tungo sa Kamalayan.”
The event began with a “Siyasat Media Forum” from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Bulacan State University Hostel Function Room. This was followed by a paralegal training session from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Francisco Balagtas Hall, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center.
Atty. Leorae Valmonte, CHR’s regional director in Central Luzon, explained that to enhance the understanding of human rights among Bulakeños, CHR and its partner agencies conducted a series of activities in the province. These included Siyasat, a media conference attended not only by media professionals but also by student journalists.
Atty. Richard Palpal-latoc, CHR chairperson, explained that the “LaKarAn” caravan will roll out in the province as part of the agency’s efforts to reach more areas in the country under its human rights campaign. He stated that the program aims to educate and raise awareness, emphasizing the crucial roles of communities, civil society, media personnel, and various sectors in promoting and protecting human rights.
Palpal-latoc also mentioned that CHR’s program “Alisto,” launched in January 2024, is dedicated to media personnel facing lawsuits in defense of their right to report the news.
