Dump truck in Angat town runs over motorcycle, 2 killed, 1 injured

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A mother and her seven-year-old daughter were killed, and her two-year-old daughter was injured in an accident involving a dump truck in Angat, Bulacan on June 17.
According to a report received by Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., Central Luzon regional police director, the fatalities were identified as 24-year-old Rosemarie De Leon and her seven-year-old daughter, Prinscess Cordenan y De Leon. The injured child, two-year-old Angel Cordenan y De Leon, is currently undergoing treatment.
Initial investigations indicated that the victims’ motorcycle, with license plate 947 QYK, and a 10-wheeler dump truck, bearing license plate ASA 9255 and driven by Paulino De Leon Jr., a resident of Dizon Compound, Payumo St., Barangay Bangkal, Norzagaray, Bulacan, were traveling along Gen. Alejo Highway in Barangay Niyugan, Angat, Bulacan, around 9:30 am.
A video of the accident circulated online showed the motorcycle riding ahead of the truck, with both vehicles traveling too close to each other. As the truck accelerated and passed the motorcycle, it appeared to lose balance and fell to the ground, with the truck’s rear tires running over both victims.
The Angat Rescue Team responded immediately and transported them to Castro Medical Hospital in the City of Baliwag, where the attending physician pronounced both victims dead upon arrival.
The driver of the dump truck is now in custody of the local police and is facing appropriate charges.
