Filing of COCs in Central Luzon generally peaceful; Guns seized in Nueva Ecija

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for local candidates in Central Luzon was generally peaceful, although several firearms were confiscated in Nueva Ecija.
Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the regional police director of Central Luzon, stated that the peaceful filing of COCs resulted from the joint efforts of the police force and partner agencies in ensuring the safety and security of the electoral process.
The Central Luzon police chief assured the public that the police force remains committed to implementing stringent security measures in preparation for the upcoming 2025 midterm national and local elections. He added, “Our focus now shifts to sustaining the momentum by continuing our law enforcement operations, including the conduct of checkpoints, OPLAN Sita, and simulation exercises.”
In related developments, police arrested a motorcycle backrider on October 9 at a checkpoint in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija. He was found in possession of a caliber .38 revolver with four live ammunition after falling off the motorcycle he was riding. Col. Ferdinand Getmino, the acting police director of Nueva Ecija, reported the incident.
Additionally, police operatives from the Talavera Police Station in Nueva Ecija arrested an armed drug suspect during a sting operation in Barangay San Miguel Na Munti, Talavera town.
Getmino stated that police recovered a caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition and two plastic sachets of suspected shabu, weighing 0.40 grams, with an estimated value of P2,720.00.
