MALOLOS CITY — Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando on Monday finally addressed the alleged road-rage incident involving presidential son Vinny Marcos but declined to share details, insisting that Malacañang and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) had already clarified the issue.
Speaking during the Monday flag-raising ceremony in Malolos, Bulacan, Fernando acknowledged that the supposed February 21 altercation on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) had stirred controversy online. However, he refused to elaborate.
The Bulacan governor also declined to comment on Facebook posts by veteran columnist Ramon Tulfo, who claimed that DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla had allegedly punched and choked the governor at the Department of the Interior and Local Government office in Camp Crame after summoning him over the supposed road-rage incident.
The governor admitted he is not perfect but said he strives to avoid abusing his authority.
Fernando also appealed to critics to use social media responsibly as he attempts to remain calm amid harsh online judgment.
Malacañang has denied that any such road-rage incident took place. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro recently told reporters that media inquiries should be directed to the LTO.
A document that allegedly showed a “show cause order” inviting the drivers and vehicles involved to explain circulated on social media last week. But LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the document did not originate from the agency.
Secretary Remulla confirmed he had spoken with Fernando to verify the reports, which were referred to the LTO. Remulla also pointed to previous complaints about Fernando’s convoy on the NLEX.
“It doesn’t matter if it was a presidential son or not. “Wala naman siyang pinatay, wala namang ginulpi, pero it has to stop. Hindi pwede makahari ‘yung mga governor eh. Dapat, you should respect the people’s rights also.”
